SECOND COMMENT PERIOD FOR DRAFT GREEN-E GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS REDUCTION PRODUCT STANDARD BEGINS TODAY
Stakeholders Invited to Comment in the Final Comment Period Before New Certification Launch

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (April 17, 2007)—The Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) announced that the new Green-e Retail Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Reduction Product Certification Standard will be released for a final stakeholder comment period beginning today.  As reported in major mainstream press outlets, the market for greenhouse gas emissions reductions is ready for this new certification standard that will ensure environmentally sound products are delivered to consumers who want to take action against climate change.

For the past nine months, the Center for Resource Solutions and the Green-e GHG Advisory Group worked on creating a well-designed draft certification standard to provide consumer protection, quality assurance and market support to the emerging retail greenhouse gas emissions reduction market and the growing number of consumers who choose to decrease their own contribution to global warming by purchasing greenhouse gas emissions reductions. This effort continues CRS’ tradition of creating consumer protection standards through transparent, stakeholder-driven processes that ensure environmental integrity and are widely accepted by stakeholders. Such processes have made Green-e the leading certification standard for renewable energy products in the United States.

“The growing sales of voluntary carbon offsets makes it clearer than ever that the market needs this new certification standard to ensure that quality emission reductions are delivered to consumers and businesses,” said Dr. Jan Hamrin, president of CRS. “Stakeholder comments from the first comment period are now incorporated into the draft standard, and this final round will specifically seek input on the expanded technical and environmental integrity requirements and guidelines for partner GHG programs.”

Those interested in participating as stakeholders in the upcoming standard review process should visit the Green-e Greenhouse Gas Emission Reductions Certification Program website to view an overview of the program; download the draft standard; and see comments from the past stakeholder comment period:www.green-e.org/getcert_ghg.shtml.
