SAN FRANCISCO, CA (August 18, 2009)—Center for Resource Solutions announced today that Great River Organic Milling—a provider of certified organic grains, flours, and mixes—joined Green-e® Marketplace by purchasing enough Green-e Energy Certified renewable energy to meet 100% of the annual electricity needs for its entire operations. The Fountain City, WI–based company purchased 62 MWh of Green-e Energy Certified renewable energy certificates from Ecoelectrons Renewable Energy. Through the Green-e Marketplace program, Great River Organic Milling can now display the Green-e logo to inform its customers that it purchased 100% Green-e Energy Certified renewable energy.

“Great River Organic Milling Company has been committed to sustainable practices for a quarter of a century,” said Rick Halverson, president of Great River. “The purchase of renewable energy credits and membership in Green-e Marketplace is an extension of that commitment. It fits with the company’s philosophy.”

Great River Organic Milling can display the Green-e logo, the national symbol for renewable energy excellence, on its company website and 40 products to help its customers identify the products manufactured with certified renewable energy.

"Customers will be delighted with Great River's environmental initiative when they see the Green-e logo on all its products," said Vishnu Chapalamadugu, Co-founder of Ecoelectrons, provider of renewable energy certificates to Great River Organic Milling.

Great River Organic Milling joins a growing list of companies and organizations that are taking real action to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from their energy use. Electricity generated from renewable sources results in less environmental waste and pollution, and displaces other non-renewable sources from the electric grid. Great River Organic Milling's purchase of electricity generated from nearly emissions-free renewable sources avoids carbon dioxide and other pollutants and serves to build the market for renewable energy nationwide, increasing the incentives for building new facilities. Currently, renewable energy accounts for only about two percent of total electricity generation nationwide.

The RECs purchased by Great River Organic Milling were certified by Green-e Energy, the leading renewable energy certification program in the U.S. It provides independent, third-party certification to ensure renewable energy meets strict environmental and consumer protection standards, including ensuring renewable energy is sourced from verified, new facilities; not double-counted towards any state's renewable energy goal; and retired on behalf of the purchaser. By joining Green-e Marketplace, Great River Organic Milling's claims are verified based on the organization's electricity use and renewable energy purchase, allowing them to use the Green-e logo.

About Great River Organic Milling
Great River Organic Milling is located on the upper Mississippi River, in the heart of the Hiawatha Valley. The natural beauty of the area is a constant reminder of the importance of our commitment to organic agriculture. Organic farming strives to protect the environment by growing healthy products and by building and maintaining healthy soil. That is why Great River buys its grains from organic farmers. Most Great River flour is stone-ground, which contributes to the quality, taste and nutritional integrity of whole grain flour. A practice used by Great River for over a quarter of a century. Great River is Certified Organic by Quality Assurance International and Kosher approved, which requires a yearly inspection of our records and milling facility. About Ecoelectrons
Ecoelectrons helps businesses quantify and reduce their environmental footprints by supplying Green-e Energy certified Renewable Energy Credits. Renewable electricity, such as that from wind power generators, is more expensive to produce than conventional fossil fuel and nuclear power sources. Renewable Energy Credits represent this premium and their purchasers become owners of the environmental attributes of renewable electricity. Visit www.ecoelectrons.com for more info.
