ATLANTA (September 15, 2009) — Ed Holt received a 2009 Green Power Leadership "Pioneer" award last night from Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) for a career spent building and promoting the market for green power. The annual award ceremony recognizes individual renewable energy leaders for outstanding achievement in support of renewable energy.

The 2009 Green Power Pioneer Award was presented to Ed Holt at the annual awards event on Monday, Sept. 14, in conjunction with Renewable Energy Markets 2009 taking place this week in Atlanta. The award reflects Holt's 30 years spent promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency. "Ed Holt has dedicated the last 30 years to moving the market forward for renewable energy," said Arthur O'Donnell, executive director of Center for Resource Solutions. "Ed has proven to be a highly trusted source of intelligence and clear thinking about the big issues faced by the industry. He clearly exemplifies what the Pioneer Award is all about and his efforts show commitment, innovation, and dedication. We are proud to honor his achievements as part of the Green Power Leadership Awards, and we expect Ed to continue providing his expertise well into the future."

Ed's career spans the earliest programs to encourage energy efficiency in the Pacific Northwest, where he was a planner and program manager for Seattle City Light, to the most recent developments in promoting and preserving green power markets. In 1997, Ed authored the Green Pricing Resource Guide—the nation's first definitive guide to green power marketing for electric utilities and the new breed of retail electricity market. He was also one of the first to recognize and substantiate, through market research, the interest by businesses and organizations in purchasing green power, at a time when most were focused on small consumers. These large consumers are now the major driver of this fast-growing market.

In the past decade, Ed has co-authored studies on Renewable Energy Certificate policy nuances and market potential for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He also advises the US Environmental Protection Agency on green power policy. His work on preserving the value of voluntary markets within the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative's cap-and-trade program helped create a good precedent for other regional and national efforts to ensure that the renewable energy investments continue to play a role in greenhouse gas reduction policies. More recently, his work has targeted the interaction between carbon emissions markets and renewable energy, including renewable energy and emissions tracking and trading.

For the last 14 years, Ed has consulted on renewable energy policy and markets. As president of Ed Holt & Associates, Inc., he is based in Harpswell, Maine.
