Stakeholder Comment Period Open for Green-e Climate Endorsement of the American Carbon Registry
Dear Green-e® Climate Stakeholders,
Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) is pleased to invite stakeholders to comment on the proposed Green-e Climate endorsement of the American Carbon Registry (ACR). Comment forms, instructions, and stakeholder comment materials are available here: www.green-e.org/climate.
ACR is a non-profit carbon market standard and registry, and the first private voluntary greenhouse gas (GHG) registry in the U.S. To date, ACR has issued over 37.5 million Verified Emission Reductions (VERs), denominated as Emission Reduction Tons (ERTs), where one ERT represents the reduction or removal from the atmosphere equivalent to one metric ton of carbon dioxide.
The specific principles and criteria that Endorsed Programs must meet are outlined in the Green-e Climate Standard. Based on comments received during this stakeholder consultation, the Green-e Governance Board will make a determination on the proposed endorsement of ACR.
Green-e Climate is a consumer protection program that certifies retail GHG emission reduction products (offsets) sold in the voluntary market. Certification under Green-e Climate ensures that no double selling of offsets occurs, that no false claims about products are made, and that consumers are informed about the offset products they are purchasing. Retailers and sellers of Green-e Climate certified offsets are only able to source GHG emission reductions (credits) from GHG programs endorsed by Green-e Climate, its stakeholders, and the Green-e Governance Board.
More information about Green-e Climate and how it interacts with Endorsed Programs can be found on the Green-e Climate website at www.green-e.org/climate.
Stakeholder comments are due by Monday, March 18, 2013.
