Stakeholder Comment Period Open for Green‑e Climate Endorsement of the U.S. EPA Climate Leaders LFG Methodology As Administered by the American Carbon Registry

San Francisco, CA (January 21, 2014)—Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) is pleased to invite stakeholders to comment on the proposed Green‑e Climate endorsement of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Climate Leaders Program methodology for Landfill Methane Collection and Combustion ("Climate Leaders LFG methodology") as administered by the American Carbon Registry (ACR). Comment forms and stakeholder comment materials are available on the Green-e Climate Homepage.

The EPA Climate Leaders LFG methodology was originally developed by the U.S. EPA for its Climate Leaders Program, which disbanded in 2010 and no longer administers or maintains the methodology. ACR first approved use of the methodology in 2010, and conducts all administrative processes and updates to this methodology for use within ACR. ACR projects validated and registered under this methodology must meet all requirements in the ACR Standard.

ACR became a Green-e Climate Endorsed Program in June 2013, following a vote by the Green-e Governance Board, stakeholder consultation, and evaluation of the ACR program and its Standard against the Green-e Climate Standard.

The specific principles and criteria that Endorsed Programs and their methodologies must meet are outlined in the Green-e Climate Standard. Based on comments received during this stakeholder consultation, the Green-e Governance Board will make a determination on the proposed endorsement of the Climate Leaders LFG methodology within ACR.

A stakeholder comment period is an opportunity for interested parties to evaluate whether Green-e Climate should endorse this project methodology based on principles and criteria outlined in the Green-e Climate Standard.

Green-e Climate is a retail certification program for carbon offsets sold in the voluntary market. Certification under Green-e Climate ensures that no double selling of offsets occurs, that no false claims about products are made, and that consumers are informed about the offset products they are purchasing. Retailers and sellers of Green-e Climate certified offsets are only able to source GHG emission reductions (credits) from GHG programs endorsed by Green-e Climate, its stakeholders, and the Green-e Governance Board.

Stakeholder comments are due by Friday, March 21, 2014.
