Planning Tool for Project Managers

The Center for Resource Solutions developed a strategy tool for conservation managers and their partners to identify where renewable energy and appropriate technology can assist in both land and community conservation efforts. This tool is computerized, menu driven where the user inputs conservation threats and gets outputs of where to apply RE-AT to assist in their work. The next step is to adapt it to a broader audience of community and micro-enterprise development organizations and translate it into Spanish for distribution to Latin America.

Assessments of Climate Change Initiatives

We have conducted renewable energy assessments of three major TNC climate change projects including a study in Peru (Central Silva) in which hydropower, solar electric, and high efficiency wood stoves were assessed for reducing conservation threats, powering preserve infrastructure, home power systems, community and compatible productive enterprises. Similar studies were completed for the Rau Province - Indonesia and Madre de las Aquas - Dominican Republic climate projects.

Compatible micro enterprise in the buffer zone of Southern Mexico Reserves

With support from the Shell Foundation, CRS provided assistance to the TNC Southern Mexico Program in identifying and funding renewable energy as a tool for micro enterprises in the buffer zones of Mexican Reserves. Working with a number of Mexican conservation NGO partners we are deploying clean technologies that enhance community development, have a positive impact on the conservation efforts of impacted reserves, while providing opportunities for income generation for the participating community members. In this program we are assisting in the development of 6 to 10 projects in two regions (Yucatan and Chiapas) with help in business development, renewable energy design and micro-finance.
